Restaurants in Tuscaloosa

Restaurant: Wintzell's Oyster House

Although it had a bad wrap on the net, I would say overall the food was good and the service and layout of the restaurant great. The food I would rate 6 out of 10. I had a red beans with rice and chicken with sausage, a kind of gumbo plate if you will. It had a little bit of a kick as far as spicy goes but still had to add hot sauce to give it the kick I wanted. The food prices there were reasonable and the view from the restaurant to the river was worth the trip. The restaurant would not be my first choice but not a bad choice if you want something local to the area. BTW the restaurant is a chain with almost all their restaurants in Alabama and one in Pensacola, Florida. A real gulf coast restaurant.

Extra fact bit: Man vs. Food, the popular reality tv show, did a show at one of Wintzell's locations. Not this location but in Mobile, Alabama.

River boat going down stream. The Black Warrior River empties out by Mobile, Alabama into the Gulf of Mexico. Would be fun to pilot!

Destination: Tuscaloosa

Welcome to Tuscaloosa. Day 2 in Tuscaloosa. We arrived Tuesday at 4:00 a.m. Not much to see at that time but the hotel lobby and the room. We are staying at the Country Inn and Suites. Not a bad place. I would recommend the hotel. It has a hot breakfast with eggs, sausage, hot oatmeal, cereal, etc and breakfast is from 6 to 930. The hotel is a bit far from downtown but near the hotel is a Books A Million, a lot of restaurants, and a Wal-mart down the street. If you like to walk, you can do good here.

When in Tuscaloosa make sure to go down to the Riverwalk. It has a nice paved trail that takes you right next to the Black Warrior River. There is a large riverboat on the river that you can get on and take pictures. It looks like you can book the riverboat for a party. It has plenty of sitting and a bar.

Also make sure to tour the University of Alabama. We toured it in a vechile. If you can find parking park and walk through it's many buildings. The place is alive with students walking around and gives a different feeling to the small city.

Will write more on my travels but for now enjoy my blog and pictures. Hope to see you soon.
